About the board:
The Shortie Youth is based on Chilli’s latest high-performance shortboard, the SHORTIE, designed for smaller rippers. James scaled down the dimensions and added a squash tail to suit grommets from 35 kg to 60 kg. Whether intermediate or advanced, this board is built to take their surfing to the next level.
As described by Jack Robbo in the 2022 Stab In The Dark, “this board is easy to ride. You don’t have to think—just jump on it and surf.” Our new performance driver brings high-performance surfing into a shortboard that suits intermediate to advanced surfers. The Shortie was refined throughout 2021 with Adriano de Souza (and the Chilli team riders) during his final year on the WSL Championship Tour.
James combined “user-friendly” with “high performance” in the design. He worked with a balanced rocker from nose to tail (creating a wide, generous sweet spot), a moderate single concave (generating speed with drive), and a semi-rounded pin tail (control in the pocket at high speed). The result is a forgiving performance shortboard that’s easy to jump on and feel comfortable instantly.
The Shortie fits into the Chilli range as a solid 2–6 ft wave driver. Recommended for higher-end intermediate to advanced groms.
